Established in 1985 by the City of Sandpoint, the Economic Development Corporation of Sandpoint (EDCS) was charged to "...encourage and promote development of the proposed Airport Industrial Park in order to stimulate the economy of the community...."

The Bonner Business Center, Sandpoint's business incubator, was created as part of that development. When it opened in January of 1992, it was one of the first business incubators in the country to include a commercial kitchen, for the support of small food-based businesses.

The Bonner Business Center was the first home to several of Sandpoint's most successful small businesses, including Unicep, Pneumex and Selkirk CNC.
